Weekly Smile: Kelly Parkison
If you’ve spent any time around Kelly Parkison, you already know her presence leaves an impression. There is a natural grace about her, paired with something even more meaningful: a genuine desire to serve others and make a difference in the lives of those around her.
Kelly is, first and foremost, a wife, a mom, and a pastor’s wife at Stephens Street Church. These roles are not just titles. They are the foundation of how she lives, how she leads, and how she serves. Faith and family are central to everything she does, and it shows in the way she pours into others with intention and care.
Her heart for family extends even deeper through her passion for adoption. It is something she speaks about openly because it is personal. Through her own journey, she has experienced the impact adoption can have, and she continues to support organizations like Hope Adoption Agency, which played a role in her family’s story. Whether encouraging others to get involved, supporting events like the Miles for Mom 5K, or simply sharing her experience, Kelly uses her voice to advocate for children and families in a meaningful way.
Many in the community also recognize Kelly as a former Miss South Carolina and a Top 15 finalist in the Miss America Competition. She was also a finalist on CBS’s The Amazing Race 7, experiences that placed her on national stages and in front of wide audiences. What stands out most is not the spotlight itself. It is how she has used those opportunities as stepping stones, not for attention, but for purpose.
Her journey has never been one-dimensional. At one point, Kelly believed her path would lead her to Broadway. After training in New York City with the Joffrey Ballet School and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater summer intensives, she thought her future was set. As she often shares, God had different plans.
Instead of Broadway, her path led her to the Miss America stage, where she earned scholarships that helped shape her future in a different way. While the stage may have changed, one thing never did. Kelly still loves to dance. That joy, that energy, and that sense of expression continue to be part of who she is today, adding to the warmth she brings into every room.
Kelly is also the founder of LOFT 218 and the author of He Knows Her Name, reflecting her heart for encouraging others, especially women, to understand their identity and value. Through her writing, speaking, and podcasting, she consistently points people back to confidence rooted in faith and purpose.
Her commitment to the next generation is evident in her role as a Local Community Director for Classical Conversations, where she invests in students and families through education that emphasizes both academic growth and strong values. She understands that building confident, capable young people starts with strong foundations and is passionate about being part of that process.
In addition, Kelly is an active member of Rotary, where the principle of service aligns closely with how she lives her life. Whether through education, service organizations, or personal relationships, she looks for ways to contribute and make a meaningful difference in the community.
What truly sets Kelly apart is how she connects with people. She listens with intention. She notices what others might miss. She takes the time to make people feel seen and valued. That ability has helped her build meaningful relationships across Cookeville, not by trying to be known, but by genuinely caring about others.
That same heart for service is what has led Kelly to step forward as a candidate for Cookeville City Council. It is not a role she takes lightly. For her, leadership is about stewardship. It is about listening, serving, and making decisions that reflect both the needs and the values of the community.
Those who know Kelly best will tell you her strength is not loud. It is steady. It is grounded in her faith and her commitment to her family and community. She carries herself with humility, but also with confidence in who she is and what she is called to do.
There is also a joy about her that is unmistakable. You see it in her smile, in her conversations, and in her love for dance. It is a reminder that life is meant to be lived fully, with gratitude for where you are and faith for where you are going.
In many ways, Kelly represents something simple, yet powerful. She represents consistency. She represents kindness. She represents the idea that showing up for others day after day matters.
This week, we’re smiling because of Kelly Parkison. Because of her heart for others. Because of her willingness to serve. And because she is a reminder that the people who make a community stronger are often the ones who show up, care deeply, and continue to shine wherever they are called.
